The Dresden Kinsmen have tripled their budget, booked a high profile Canadian rock group and they are ready to party on Saturday (July 9) at the Kinstock Music Festival.

“It started off that we just decided we wanted to go bigger,” said Darren Wills, Kinsmen member and the event organizer.

“The first Kinstock two years ago was to celebrate our Dresden Kinsmen 75th anniversary. It was very well attended so we decided ‘hey, let’s make it an annual event’, so we did it again last year with local bands.”

Wills added: “We decided ‘you know what, we want to go bigger.’ So I approached the club about having a bigger budget. We have actually tripled our budget from last year. So than I proceeded from there to seek out who we were interested in bringing in. Sloan was at the top of my list. There was also a couple of others. You work back and forth with their agent and we got lucky we got Sloan booked.”

On top of music, Wills said there are going to be three food vendors on site.

“There is Mario’s Pizza from Dresden, Tammy’s Food Truck, which she is normally located just outside of Wallaceburg, and then we also have the Legion as well with a food booth,” Wills said.

Wills said Kyra Gall will be handling the Kinstock merchandise.

“We will be selling shirts for the event,” Wills said.

“She also has her own merchandise that she makes on her own. She has been there every year since we started. She makes a whole bunch of small woodworking medallions. Its pretty neat stuff. They have got Kinstock engraved.”

Wills said the Dresden Kinsmen will be manning the beer tent.

“The tent will be open right at 4 p.m. when the gates open,” he said.

Tickets are $20 up until Friday and then they will be $25 Saturday or at the gate.

Tickets are available at McKellar’s Flowers in Dresden, Hughson Automotive in Dresden, Dresden Meat Packers in Dresden and Wallaceburg, Tony’s One Stop Music Shop in Chatham, Musical Strings ‘N Things in Chatham, Bottoms Up Bar & Grill in Point Edwards and Ellis Motors in Dresden.

“We are really hoping people come out and support the event,” Wills said.

“We are trying to keep the cost down so its affordable for everybody to attend but yet we still want try to attract a national act/headliner and support our local talent. That’s where we want to go. Keep supporting our local talent.”

“I would like to see us, if we can get the support and keep moving forward, would be to add a Friday night. Whether we did country on the Friday night and rock on the Saturday or vice versa, or if it end up turning country all weekend. That would work itself out, but that would be my goal.”

Wills added: “I think we have done pretty well at getting the word out there. Lots of people know about it. We have got a lot of positive feedback. A lot of people excited about it so we are hoping we can get about 1,500 people. That would be a very successful night for us.
