(Women Helping Women)

Special to the Sydenham Current

How many of us can say we helped change the world on a Thursday evening?

‘Women Helping Women’ is doing just that.

Women Helping Women is a local and independent group of compassionate women and girls who are motivated to help change the world by providing awareness, advocacy and financial support to individuals, organizations and projects dedicated to the improvement of women and girls suffering from poverty, oppression, abuse and a lack of opportunity.

We are fortunate women who have a voice.

We can use our voices to raise awareness of the atrocities against women, and support our sisters who are denied health care, education, opportunity and basic human rights.

Women Helping Women is committed to making the world a better place by supporting women and girls in the belief it can be a powerful vehicle to enable and empower them to become self-sufficient and create better lives for themselves, their families and their communities.

Women Helping Women has had a profound impact by assisting women and girls in 11 countries and has raised over $35,000 to date through a wide range of support including health care, education, water wells, equipment and resources.

Women Helping Women is designed for busy women and girls who want to better understand the issues effecting women and girls and bring positive change.

We only meet twice and do not require a membership, minimum donation, or time commitment.

Join us at Country View Golf Course on Thursday, May 10, 2018 for dinner anytime after 5 p.m. ($20 cash buffet) or just for the meeting at 6:30 p.m. (donations can also be received online at http://www.womenhelpingwomen.ca).

Everyone is welcome.

It is not necessary to donate and anyone interested in becoming better informed on issues effecting women around the world is encourage to join us for an evening of learning.

Two organizations, individuals or groups are presented at each meeting who have been vetted to ensure they meet Women Helping Women criteria of focus on women or girls, effective in bringing compassionate relief or providing opportunity and use their resources wisely.

On May 10 we have the privilege of presenting two more amazing organizations:

Days for Girls: Is a dedicated group of Chatham-Kent women who are part of a world wide movement that create “kits” that help women and girls manage their periods. The Kits are safe, beautiful, washable, and long-lasting.

Together We Give: A South African non-profit, that provides services and charitable relief to disenfranchised grassroots communities, with focus on poverty, education, unemployment, historical inter-generational trauma & social justice.

Feedback is provided on the recipient organization with continued communication and pictures of how we made a real and tangible difference on all organizations and projects we support.

Women across the world and particularly in developing countries can be a powerful and lasting motivator for real change and as privileged women in Canada we can support and empower their efforts.

Please join us Thursday, May 10… we are honoured to have a number of cultural vendors tables (cash payments) with items made by and for organizations from around the world who support women’s initiatives.
