A dog’s nails should be grinded or clipped once a month. Long nails will encourage the quicks (the blood vein) to grow making nails hard to trim later. Very long nails may push the dogs toes up, making it uncomfortable to walk and climb stairs.
I have heard that dogs who walk with long nails can also hurt their knee and hip joints.
Hi Nancy…”It is very possible for that to become an issue with a dog with overgrown nails..The longer the nails, the more it pushes up on their toes and causes discomfort. therefor from walking in a manner to avoid pressure on their toes can in fact cause knee and hip discomfort
