Kijiji deal leads to fraud charges

KIJIJI

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man wanted for fraud following a traffic stop yesterday morning.

In January 2014, the man advertised a snow plow for sale on Kijiji for $1000.

Police say a 63-year-old Sombra Township man was interested in purchasing the item so he gave the man $300 as a down payment.

The two men agreed that the remainder of the money would be paid when the snow plow was delivered to an address in Sarnia.

When the man failed to deliver the snow plow on the agreed date, the victim attempted to contact the man.

The man sent him an email stating that because he didn’t receive the whole payment he was not delivering the snow plow.

Police were notified and a fraud investigation commenced.

Yesterday morning, an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling on Murray Street in Wallaceburg with the licence plates covered in snow. The officer initiated a traffic stop and found the man wanted for fraud to be the driver.

A 52-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and has been charged with fraud under $5000.

He was released pending a future court date.
