Police warn of fraudulent email

Definition of fraudThe Chatham-Kent police would like to inform everyone about a fraudulent email that was recently reported.

Here is what the e-mail consists of:

Dear Taxpayer,

After the last annual calculation of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $312.00. Regarding this, please complete the Refund Form and mail it to one of the addresses from the second page.
Your *Refund Reference Number is: (number deleted)
*Refund Amount: 312.00 $.
To access the form for your tax refund, please Click Here. (link deleted)
For security reasons, remove the form from your computer after printing.

Canada Revenue Agency

Police officials said to be be advised that Canada Revenue Agency does not request information of any kind from a taxpayer by email.

Wallaceburg resident Henrie Timmers received this exact emmail in his inbox yesterday morning.

“This is well written and on a believable scale,” he said.

    • Hey, Michael. It is one of those little touches that give it some ‘credibility.’ They’re warning you not to be cheated. It was actually the best written scam I have seen, writing wise. Grammar critics aside, this is *nearly* better than what I expect from most people.
