A leadership shake-up is taking place with the Wallaceburg and District Chamber of Commerce.

President, Carmen McGregor, informed the organization’s Board of Directors of her decision to step down from her position to pursue a seat on municipal council.

McGregor made the announcement to the Board earlier this week.

The move resulted in the following changes being made to the Executive: Karen Debergh and Nick Cadotte share the role of President, Chuck Ferris was named Vice President, Matt Montague assumed the role of Secretary and Mike Hatfield was named Treasurer.

Debergh said she’s excited to work side-by-side with Cadotte.

“Nick is young and enthusiastic and brings a lot of energy to the Board,” she said. “I think it’s a good combination between the two of us, with my experience being on the Chamber for about eight years. We’d like to bring some young people into the mix. We have a great board this year, who will be changing things up to keep making the Chamber better. There is a good, bright future in store for us.”

Debergh added the Chamber is going to focus on establishing a more “member-centric” approach.

“We’re really concentrating this year on increasing the value to our members,” she said. “We’d like to increase our member-to-member initiatives and incentives. We’ve got a lot of young entrepreneurs in the area, the home-based business, one-person businesses that we’d really like to see what they would like us to do for them. We want some of these young business people to get involved. We have a good mix in town with young people opening businesses and established. So with everybody working together, we can only be stronger.”

Both Debergh and Cadotte are active members of the Chamber and bring many years of business experience and community engagement to the position of President.

“I wish to thank Carmen for her many contributions to the Chamber and we are pleased she will remain with the organization as a Director,” Cadotte said in a statement. “As co-President of the Chamber, I am excited to represent the organization. Karen and I, along with our dedicated Directors, will strive to continue to bring value to the membership and explore opportunities to strengthen the relationships within the business community.”
