A blood donor clinic is taking place today (March 27) at the UAW Hall in Wallaceburg.

The clinic runs from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the 88 Elm Street location.

Marisa Gatfield, the local territory manager for the Canadian Blood Services, said every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood.

“We’ve had a harsh winter, and many clinics were cancelled all across Canada,” she said. “We are encouraging everyone to come out and donate.”

Gatfield added on average about one out of two Canadian are eligible to give blood, however last year only 1 in 60 Canadians actually donated.

“We’re looking to close that gap,” she said.

Gatfield said it takes up to five donors a week to accommodate for one cancer patient.

Call 1-888-2 Donate or 1-888-236-6283 to book an appointment.

Another blood donor clinic is coming to the Dresden Arena on April 28. It will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
