How do you grow an 800 pound pumpkin?
The Bluewater Growers and Throwers provided a group of people at the Wallaceburg Library with some tips and advice to do just that.
“Seed genetics is really important, if you have a good seed that’s the main thing,” said Mike DeMars, a member the group. “A little tender love and care… vine management and lots of space.”
DeMars said their group is looking at recruiting some younger members.
“We’ve been trying to get some younger people, some new blood into the club,” he said. “Some of the older guys have quit growing the pumpkins, so every year we get less and less. We decided to have a little growing seminar and give everyone a few pointers on what they should do. We’ve given out some free seeds, so hopefully we have some people to join up.”
