The Chatham-Kent police are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in an early morning collision in Romney Township.

Around 8:30 a.m. emergency crews responded to a collision on Campbell Road near Concession Line 6 where a bus driver was forced to the side of the road by an oncoming escorted wide load transport.

The bus slid off the roadway as the gravel edge of the ditch was soft. The driver managed to maintain control and avoid the bus from rolling over by steering the bus into a farmer’s field. Damage to the bus was estimated at $2000.

The bus was fully loaded with kids from Old Colony School Board at the time of the incident. One child was transported to Leamington District Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Police are now trying to identify the transport truck as the driver failed to stop.

The transport truck was dark in colour and last seen pulling a flatbed trailer carrying large steel frames.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Bill Bergsma at 519-436-6600 extension #81394.

Anonymous callers may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and may be eligible for a cash reward.
