Pet Valu in Wallaceburg is hoping the sun doesn’t shine through their windows by the end of the month.
This isn’t because Fab Therrien, owner of the Wallaceburg store, doesn’t want nice, spring weather, she wants her windows to be covered with “paws.”
“It’s called donate a paw,” Therrien said. “They can give as much as they want, but our paws are $1, $2, $5, $10. This year we are going to give 50 per cent to the Animal Rescue Fund and 50 per cent to the Wallaceburg Animal Shelter. They’ll probably use it for food and for vet bills and stuff like that.”
Therrien said this has been an annual fundraiser at her store.
“It stays here in Wallaceburg,” she said. “We’ve given close to $5,000 already since 2011. That is how great my customers are.”
Therrien said some “big paws” are available to businesses that want to donate.
“They can put their name on it, they can put it in our window or they can put it in their window and show that they donated,” she said.
Therrien said they are trying to fill up the entire window with the paws.
“We’ve got a way to go,” she said. “Last year we raised $2,300 and this year we’re trying to raise $2,500. Every time people come in here they’re donating.”
