Despite being on the wrong end of a 15-4 loss to the Six Nations Rebels, the Wallaceburg Red Devils made history last night (May 1.)

Emily Vandamme became the first female to suit up in an Ontario Junior ‘B’ contest in the history of the league.

“What a great experience in my first jr.b game, couldn’t have asked for a better team to make my debut with,” she tweeted out following the game.

Down 11-2 entering the 3rd period, head coach Jamie Knight pulled starting goalie Noble Jacobs, and handed the reigns over to Vandamme.

She was peppered with 19 shots in the final period, making 15 saves.

Vandamme’s teammates were on social media praising her as well.

“Huge congrats to (Emily Vandamme) for stepping between the pipes for us,” tweeted forward Evan Mathany.

We’ll look to catch up with Vandamme for an interview in the near future.

In the mean time, the Red Devils are poised for as busy weekend at home.

They host Guelph Saturday in their opener and Brampton on Sunday.

Both games start at 4 p.m. at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.
