It is is still not clear whether horse racing will take place at the Dresden Raceway this season.

However, volunteers with the Dresden Agricultural Society are remaining hopeful and optimistic.

“We haven’t signed our contract yet,” said Lucille Laprise, president of the Ag Society. “We’re hoping for some good news by next week.”

Laprise said they have asked the Ontario Racing Commission for 11 dates for the year, but they have not received any confirmation.

“We’re patiently waiting,” Laprise said. “We’re still hoping.”

Laprise said she is encouraged by the news this week of the Hiawatha Horse Park in Sarnia receiving approval for 21 race dates.

“It’s encouraging that is for sure,” Laprise said.

The entire industry has been readjusting this year, after the province cancelled the Slots At Racetracks program in 2013.
