Alex Shipman, a resident of Walpole Island First Nation, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the age of 78.

Alex is the son of the late Edward & Mable (Tooshkenig) Shipman. Predeceased by his beloved wife Gladys (White) in 2009. Loving father of Jeanette White (Mike), Aubrey Shipman, Delphine Jacobs, William Shipman (Cha), Terrance Shipman, Freda Shipman, Tanya Mosher (Larry) and the late Gladwyn and Alexandra.

Dear grandfather of 30 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Brother of Adam (Thelma), Howard (Nancy), Cecil, Edward (Gina) and the late Stanford, Wellington, Mary, Stella, Rita and Hilda.

A survivor of Shingwauk residential school, Alex was a former employee of Libbey Glass, North American Plastics, Industrial Pallet, Mt. Clemens Pottery and built seawalls and dredged around Harssens Island, Michigan.

He enjoyed hunting, trapping, hockey, boxing, baseball and the guitar.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Alex’s home, 160 Altiman Rd, Walpole Island, from 4 PM on Saturday until noon on Tuesday.

Wake Services will be held at 6:30 PM on Sunday and Monday.

The funeral will be celebrated at the Walpole Island Sports Complex at 2 PM on Tuesday with visiting in the hour prior.
