Severe thunderstorm watch still in effect

With rain already cancelling a handful of school events across the area this morning, some severe weather is still possible today, June 18.

Environment Canada officials say severe thunderstorm conditions are possible from early this afternoon to late this evening.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing torrential rain and strong wind gusts,” Environment Canada officials stated.

“Fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes,” officials added.

A severe thunderstorm warning has already come and gone this morning across Chatham-Kent.

Watch for more updates as conditions change.
