It was another win for homeless and pets in need from Wallaceburg today.

This past Monday it was noted at Council that the Wallaceburg Animal Shelter received a large donation: ‘A nice gift for Wallaceburg’

Thanks to Pet Valu in Wallaceburg along with their customers and many local businesses, another donation was made today (June 27) for $2,551.

Half of the proceeds are going to The Wallaceburg Animal Shelter and the other half going to the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) who help with food, shelter, surgeries and so much more for animals who need it.

“Through the month of April we sold paws to put in the window of our store for $2, $5 and $10 dollars,” said Fab Therrien, owner of Pet Valu in Wallaceburg. “Surprisingly we had a lot of people donate $20 when they found out who it was for. Our goal was to raise $,2500. I am so thankful to our customers, but we could not have done it without the support of local businesses. Thank you to The Wallaceburg Animal Hospital, the Royal Bank employees, Foster’s Meats, New Vision, Glasses and Grapes, Nature’s Health, Connie Rivest Hair Styling, and Buy in Bulk.”

Therrien said this is the 4th year Pet Valu has raised funds with paws for ARF and The Wallaceburg Animal Shelter.

Each year has received more support than the previous.

“The first year I think we raised $1,500, the next $1,800, $2,100 last year and now this year over $2,500,” she said.

Therrien said they also collect donations years round, including donated animal food and items, such as clothes and blankets, toys, or anything they can use at the Wallaceburg Animal Shelter.

Fab handed the donations to Sue Arends of the Shelter and Lisa Holland from K9 Klips, who also oversees ARF with her mother Mary Anne Holland in the Wallaceburg, Walpole, and Dresden area.
