A special guest speaker from the professional sports world will be featured at the upcoming WAMBO church service.

Pastor Josh Tuininga, of the Wallaceburg Christian Reformed Church, said Steve Kearns, a former player with the B.C. Lions and Hamilton Tiger Cats and current chaplain for the Tigers Cats, the Toronto Raptors and Toronto FC, will be making the trip to speak at the interdenominational service on Sunday, August 10 at WAMBO.

“He works for Athletes In Action, which is an organization that uses sports to tell people about the Bible, who Jesus is, that sort of thing,” Tuininga said.

The service includes participation from most churches from Wallaceburg as part of the Wallaceburg Ministerial Association.

“Most of the churches in town, we don’t have our individual services, but we gather together,” he said. “I always think it’s a good time to be together with all these people who we share so much in common with, and invite people that we don’t know to be part of that.

Tuininga added: “It’s a wonderful event and we’re so thankful that the WAMBO committee allows us to partake in this way. They offer the use of the tent and chairs, things like that. We are so thankful for that.”

Tuininga said there will be free food following the service, which will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

“MP, Bev Shipley and MPP Monte McNaughton, they come out and put on a barbecue, so everybody gets their fill there,” Tuininga said. “It’s really a great event.”
