The Wallaceburg and District Museum has welcomed a new curator to the helm.

Michelle Bissonnette said she is thrilled to have been chosen for the position.

“I was living up in Northern Ontario, about six hours north of Thunder Bay even,” she said. “I like southern Ontario and I like the history of southern Ontario, so I was looking for a job that would bring me back this way.”

Bissonnette said she was never in one place for very long growing up.

“I’m from a military family, so I’m kind of from all over,” she said. “I did spend a lot of time in southern Ontario, so it’s the closest to home that I have and my family lives down in this area now. For all those reasons I wanted to come to southern Ontario.”

When she saw the opening at the Wallaceburg Museum, she jumped at it.

“I was looking for jobs in this area and they had the opening here at the Wallaceburg Museum, so I tried for it and was fortunate enough to get it,” she said.

Bissonnette said her first order of business is to prepare for WAMBO.

“I did was a small temporary display there, when you first walk in of the cameras,” she said. “Just looking at different cameras throughout time, so it’s not specific to Wallaceburg but it’s an interest piece more than anything. We’ve got so much stuff that we are working on right now.”

Bissonnette added she’s expected to be truly welcomed this weekend at WAMBO.

“I’ll be in the dunk tank… they said it was a bit of initiation,” she said with a laugh.

Bissonnette replaces Brock Gerrard, who left the position to pursue other interests earlier this year.
