Lakers fall to Mooretown in a shootout

The Wallaceburg Lakers hung in tough on Saturday, but it was the hometown Flags who prevailed in a shootout.

Mooretown opened the scoring in the second period, before Mike Brown scored for the Lakers at the 7:01 mark with an assist from Mike Kindrachuk.

Mooretown added another goal in the second to go up 2-1 entering the third period.

Wallaceburg’s 16-year-old rookie Brendan Ritchie scored for the Lakers, tying the game up at 2-2 at the 7:53 mark of the third. Josh Berkvens assisted on Ritchie’s goal.

After a scoreless overtime period, both teams headed to a shootout.

Matt Clark and Frankie White were turned aside for the Lakers, while Sam Jasmin and Dan Lumley both scored for the Flags, to preserve the win.

Lakers goalie Scotty Gray was solid between the pipes all night, stopping 39 shots in the loss.

Wallaceburg will host Essex in Wednesday (Sept. 17) in their next contest.
