Wellness in Wallaceburg: Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton-Kent

This weeks Wellness In Wallaceburg weekly spotlight features: The Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent.

What services do you provide?

We have a number of programs throughout Lambton and Kent counties.

Specifically in Wallaceburg, we provide 24 hour crisis support services which includes: telephone crisis intervention referrals, and family support. The Crisis Line is also available to healthcare providers seeking assistance navigating community resources. We also provide Clinical Case Management, a bio-psychosocial rehabilitation emphasizing client choice, empowerment, and individual strengths, provided on a one-to-one basis.

Services include care planning, problem solving, coaching on therapeutic lifestyle choices and education on health and medication and much more depending on the needs of each individual.

Finally, our Preventative Education and Mental Health Promotion Program is available to speak to classrooms, workplaces, and community partners about mental wellness and provide information about our services.

Who can access your services and is there a cost?

Anyone over the age of 15 experiencing mental health issues or the effects of mental health issues can access our FREE services.

How do people access your services?

People can be referred by family doctors, psychiatrists, the hospital, friends or family, or even themselves by calling the crisis line. People can also call the office during business hours to schedule an appointment with staff to discuss what services would be most beneficial for them.

What is the future direction of services in the Wallaceburg area?

The CMHA branch in Wallaceburg has been continuously growing since we moved there and we will continue to partner with other agencies to provide better services for the community!

What’s the best advice you can give to people to help them stay well?

We work daily on our physical wellness and mental wellness should be no different. Having healthy ways to cope with stress, being active in your community, and prioritizing your own health are the first steps in being mentally well!
