The Adult Activity Centre in Wallaceburg is preparing  to say goodbye to their long-time cook.
Dorothy Gallant has been running the kitchen at the Wallaceburg site, located at 205 James Street, for the past 11 years.
She will be retiring from running the kitchen on March 28.
While there are many to choose from, Gallant said her greatest memory at the Centre was her first Christmas working there.
It was the first Christmas without her late husband Des, so she decided that she would have the Centre opened for Christmas Day.
She organized a “lovely” Christmas turkey dinner for all those who were alone or who couldn’t afford such a treat.
Gallant said Wallaceburg’s John Gardiner posted the information on the former CK Times and it was also blasted on the radio.
All the proceeds went to the Victoria Order of Nurses (VON), as a thank you for taking care of her late husband, Gallant said.
She added all of this could not have been done without all the kindness and generosity of the members of the Centre.
Moving forward, Gallant said she is looking forward to retirement and this new chapter in her life.
She said “she will miss the centre and all of her customers and members tremendously.”
Her wish for everyone is to have a blessed life, she added.
The Adult Activity Centre is still looking to find Gallant’s replacement as well.
