Wallaceburg water petition picking up steam

It didn’t take 24 hours for an online petition concerning Wallaceburg’s drinking water future to gather 100 signatures.

And as of 3:45 p.m. on the petitions second day, a total of 158 people have stated they do not want Wallaceburg’s water coming from Lake Erie.

“We’ve only started,” said Henrie Timmers, who started the change.org petition. “Thanks to you, we are being heard all across Chatham-Kent. Newspapers are taking notice. We reached 100 supporters of our petition in the first day!

Timmers also said on the site: “Keep up the great work of spreading this petition around and let’s let Stantec Consulting and the C-K Public Utilities know that we in Wallaceburg don’t want Lake Erie water.”

Along with signing the petition, people are also voicing their opinions on the site as well.

“I would like to have the choice of where our water comes from,” said Cheryl Sheff. “Too many choices have already been taken away from us and this one is too important.”

“I am a retired employee of Entegrus and took many calls regarding Lake Erie water when the lake ‘flipped,'” said Lynda Hedges. “Our water in Wallaceburg is by far better than Lake Erie water. I know first hand that most people were not happy with this.”

“I want my voice heard I am a taxpayer of Chatham Kent and I do not want my water coming from Lake Erie,” said Grace Harvey.

“We are receiving good water now, so why would Chatham Kent compromise this, if our facility needs to be upgraded/repaired then that’s what should happen so we can continue to receive good water,” said Mary O’Neil.
