Suspect with high powered pellet gun arrested

CK14037041 - FinalThe Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following the report of a suspicious person in Tilbury.

On Monday, December 15, 2014 around 4:00 p.m. police responded to the area of St. Clair Street as a man was observed walking with a long gun with a scope in the field.

The man failed to respond to the officers’ instructions and ran through a ditch, along the edge of the field next to residential houses.

The man eventually stopped running and dropped the gun as per the officers’ commands.

He was taken into custody without incident.

The gun was seized and found to be a high powered Ruger Blackhawk 117 ca. pellet gun, which was loaded.

The man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was released with conditions pending a future court date.

Through investigation, police learned that the man was currently bound by a lifetime prohibition not to possess any firearm or weapon.

Last night, the 35-year-old Tilbury was additionally charged with disobeying a court order.

He was released pending a future court date of January 9, 2015.
