The Defiance Running Club started 2015 off doing what they do best – running.
Mark Childs, president of the club, said 42 people came out for the 10 a.m. run on New Year’s Day.
“It was cold, but fun,” Childs said.
Eight members of the club even took a dip in the freezing cold Sydenham River at the end of the run.
One member in particular, Alex Richie, swam the entire width of the river, ending up outside of The Black Goose.
Richie said it wasn’t an easy swim.
“I feel better now after a warm bath,” he said. “It was such a weird feeling swimming across. I couldn’t think and I could feel my body shutting down.”
Childs added: “He’s a new level of crazy.”
The Defiance Running Club is going to be focusing on expanding their youth program and growing their adult membership in 2015, Childs said.
