From the Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
You’re currently on day four of your New Year’s resolution.
Depending on what you boldly declared on December 31st, you may be suffering from caffeine withdrawal, very sore muscles, or the mirage that every pencil or pen looks like a cigarette.
I realize your goal seemed so much more attainable back when the ball dropped in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, but I assure you that with a little perseverance you can do this.
The temptation to quit is a very real threat to our goals, which is why it might be a good thing to have a friend come alongside you and help you.
The Bible says in Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
I don’t know about you, but having another person pushing me to reach my goals, or just encouraging me when I am desperately wanting to throw in the towel goes a long way in helping me stay in the game.
I have also found that allowing for the odd “cheat day” motivates me to stay on course and finish what I started.
A few years back I entered into a challenge with a man in my church to read the whole Bible through in 90 days. I am sure I would have quit within the first month had it not been for Tom’s encouragement, and I did the same for him.
Together we reached our goal.
So get a buddy, ask God for guidance, and then get out there and accomplish what you started out to do on December 31st.
