A downtown Wallaceburg restaurant has captured a municipal award.
James Bolos, owner of James Street Eatery, has won a Mayor’s Heritage Preservation Award. Specifically, Bolos gathered the most votes for the People’s Choice Award.
“James has done a great job restoring the façade and first storey interior of the James Street Eatery,” read the summary of restoration project on the municipal website.
“The first storey of this two storey brick building has been used as a restaurant since its construction in 1911. James’ restorations began in 2008 with the removal of the drop ceiling; and the addition of new ducts, fans, lighting and fresh coat of paint, complimenting the original near century old tin ceiling in the restaurant.”
The summary adds: “James continued his restorations in 2013 and 2014 with the repointing and repair of all three brick facades, and the addition of a new awning, windows and doors, sympathetically modernizing the main façade of the building.”
The awards will be handed out to properties in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent who demonstrated ‘best practice’ preservation, restoration, or renovation work that reflects a commitment to the quality and characteristics of a heritage property.
This year, five other properties across Chatham-Kent will be recognized, two from Camden, and one each from Erieau, Chatham and Thamesville.
The award winners are set to be recognized at the Chatham-Kent council meeting on Monday, January 12.
