Police chase leads to impaired charges

Early this morning at about 1:30 am Chatham-Kent Police received a call in regards to a possible impaired driver travelling along Richmond Street near Keil Drive.

Within a short while, police observed the vehicle in question travelling northbound along Keil Drive.

Police initially stopped the vehicle however, while officers approached the vehicle on foot, the driver/accused fled.

Subsequently a pursuit was initiated and after a short pursuit, the vehicle turned eastbound on Riverview and into an apartment complex.

The driver fled on foot and officers gave chase eventually arresting him a short distance from the vehicle.

As a result, the accused a 33 year old Chatham man was charged with multiple offences including Flight from Police, Breach of Undertaking, Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Over 80 in which case the accused provided two samples, both double the legal limit and finally, Drive while under Suspension.

He has been held in custody pending a video remand this morning.
