The Frank Dymock Classic Tournament is being held at Wallaceburg Memorial Arena all weekend.
The tournament includes teams from Atom, Peewee and Bantam divisions.
Games will be taking place throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.
“Frank is a big part of Wallaceburg, a big name in Wallaceburg… anybody that has been on the ice before or has laced up skates, knows Frank,” said Tom Cogghe, organizer of the tournament.
“In 2008, they started the tournament in honour of Frank. He was always at the tournaments, always sat in the press box and watched the kids play. He loved being there.”
Cogghe said Frank would always make sure every kid that participated in the tournament received a souvenir puck after the tournament.
“That is one thing that we are carrying on,” he said. “Frank was adamant that he wanted all the kids to get pucks every year. So every kid that comes in the tournament, players, coaches, anybody involved, they get a puck. We’re trying to carry on that tradition.”
The Wallaceburg and District Museum is going to be opening up their doors on the Saturday of the tournament as well, in order for players in the tournament to check out the Frank Dymock display at the Museum.
They are offering $1 off admission as well.
