Racing is still tentatively set to take place in Dresden this year, however the final stamp of approval is still pending.

Ray Kahnert, manager of communication for the Ontario Racing Commission, said a review of the Dresden Raceway application to hold LIVE racing this year is still taking place.

“The review of the application to operate racing at Dresden is still underway,” Kahnert said.

“There are no updates to provide at this time.”

Kahnert said back in January the ORC was withholding a decision until a new board of directors was in place for the Dresden Agricultural Society.

“As noted in (the Racing Commission Act 2000), racetrack operators can be subject to an ORC Due Diligence examination,” Kahnert said. “Such an examination was underway for the licensing of Dresden Raceway to operate racing in 2015.”

Kahnert said the the dates that were announced in December for the Dresden Raceway, are still “proposed” to take place.

“This means Dresden Raceway has proposed to commence racing on May 31, 2015,” Kahnert said.

In the meantime, a new board of directors is in place for the Dresden Agricultural Society.

However at the January 29 annual general meeting for the Agricultural Society, members learned that $53,005.45 had gone missing from their bank account.

Reports say Lucille Laprise, the president of of the group, told the members she checked the Agricultural Society bank account on Jan. 7 and saw a balance of $89,342.43.

When she checked the same account a couple weeks later, the balance had fallen to $36,336.98.

There were no answers given to the Agricultural Society membership for what happened to the money.

We’ll provide more information about this story when it becomes available.

Also, the Agricultural Society is looking to fill a part-time position for secretery/treasurer.
