“Don’t let fear decide your future” was what American marathon expert Shalane Flanagan said.
This lady knows a thing or two about facing fear, as she is on the hot seat in every race she runs, representing the United States in the ever-growing sport of marathon running.
She is up against the world’s best every time she laces up her shoes and toes the line in various international races.
Flanagan has reaped a fair amount of success in her chosen sport and a big part of that stems from the fact that she chooses to face down her fears instead of giving in to them.
Instead of being intimidated by her competition, she chooses to rise up to their challenge and strive for the win.
God wants us to do the same in the race of life.
The apostle Paul once gave Timothy, a young, inexperienced pastor, some great advice that rings true for us today, as well.
In 2 Timothy 1:7 he said, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Fear cripples the passion to move forward and explore new frontiers.
It coaxes us to stay back and let others dictate our path, instead of launching out and blazing a trail for ourselves and those we influence.
If success is what you long for, then fear is something that needs to get an eviction notice.
