Dresden gets an online facelift

The Dresden BIA has given the community an “online” facelift.

Dresden.ca has a new look,” said Chrystal Wills, chair of the Dresden BIA.

“Thanks to Paul Weese and Stuart Kiar, they have given us free rein at using the Dresden.ca name to promote Dresden, for the Dresden BIA. Explore Dresden, the charm, the beauty, the lifestyle, we just want people to go and check it out and see the businesses that are on there… giving everybody one place to look to find us.”

Wills said the new site has an assortment of different features, including some familiar local stories.

“The Sydenham Current is featured on our new website for our local news,” Wills said.

“Our site is linked to our Facebook Page, Explore Dresden. You can get upcoming events. I try to keep up on posting things that are going on around town, whether it is Tammy’s Sandwich Shops lunch special, or a special on at one of the stores, or just events that are coming up.”

Wills said at one point Dresden had two websites.

“We wanted to make just one location to have all of our information,” she said. “We’re still in the building process, I know there is things we are missing, but I think we’re at the right point to get it out there so we can get some feedback.”

Wills said there is a contact form on the site, where people can let the BIA know “what are they looking for… hat do they want to find on there.

“Our homepage shows events, so if they give me the information, I can set them up with an event, so there will be a little poster and a blurb about their event and if they click on it they can get more information. We want businesses and organizations to contact us so we can get their information up there… they might not have a web presence yet. We’re going to give them a web presence on this site,” Wills said.

Wills said she wanted people to be able to to easily navigate through the site.

“All the parks are on there, we’re trying to get all of the service groups, so they have a web presence as well, she said. “They can list their events right on their little page with what is going on for the whole year. That way we can have people refer to it. We’ve had groups go on there and see when the Kinsmen’s next event is, when is Kinstock… so they didn’t book an event on the same date.”

Wills said there is no cost to Dresden businesses.

“The BIA is paying for this project,” Wills said. “We just want to make it a good site, so people can visit it and find the information they are looking for. It’s very user friendly on mobile devices as well.

Wills said Laurie Dunlop was a big help, as she supplied all the write-ups for each of the pages and Cindy June supplied the winter pictures that are displayed on the site.

Wills said Tyler Oulette was the co-chair on this project as well.
