A key piece of Wallaceburg’s downtown core is set to be improved, and it is sure to leave the WAMBO committee grinning from ear-to-ear.
The parking lot, which is sandwiched between the former Liquidation World building and a number of downtown businesses, is set to be re-surfaced.
Nelson Cavacas, manager of infrastructure and development engineering, said in an e-mail obtained by the Sydenham Current that Chatham-Kent will be completing resurfacing and drainage improvements to the lot this year.
“It is the lot identified by the WAMBO group as being important to their festival event activities,” Cavacas wrote.
WAMBO chair Bill Wolsing sent a letter to council last year stating that the downtown parking lot on James Street was in rough shape and had multiple tripping hazards for people walking through their event.
WAMBO 27 is slated to take place Aug. 7,8 and 9.
Wallaceburg Coun. Jeff Wesley said 2015 is turning out to be a banner year for the Wallaceburg community and especially the Wallaceburg BIA.
“A lot of hard work by a lot of people over several years is paying off in 2015,” Wesley said. “Repaving and new drainage for the lot… this will benefit WAMBO, plus all the people and businesses who use this lot.”
Wesley pointed out a number of other projects taking place in Wallaceburg as well:
– Community Partnership funds for BIA Beautification
– Stonehouse Walkway work to begin in April
– Festival grant to the Arts Council for Canada Day Fireworks
– Approval for needed repairs to the Museum
“It is exciting to see the improvements that will take place and it will be fun to be part of that,” Wesley said.
We’ll provide more details about the project when they become available.
