Driver evades police on Hwy. 401

A 32 year old Hamilton man was arrested after evading a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on April 4, 2015. Just after 9 a.m., the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on an Acura car for a speed violation on Highway 401 eastbound, near Victoria Road.

The driver did not stop, and fled from the officer, accelerating to speeds of approximately 200 km/hr, while driving the vehicle in an erratic manner. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on its own near Orford Road.

The driver has been charged with the following:

· Dangerous Operation Of A Motor Vehicle, under the Criminal Code of Canada

· Flight While Pursued By Peace Officer, under the Criminal Code of Canada

· Race A Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

He is scheduled to appear in a Chatham Court on May 15, 2015, to answer to the charges.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
