As previously reported, yesterday afternoon, police responded to Thamesville Area Central School in regards to a suspicious person.

At this time, a grade six student reported that on April 2, 2015 around 8:00 p.m. while roller blading home from a school function in the rain, an older man stopped and asked if he needed a ride home. The boy declined the man’s offer and continued roller blading home. The man drove away and was last seen in the Wallace and Jane Street area.

The man had brownish gray hair and a white beard. He was driving an older black Jeep with rust on it.

Another parent has since come forward to report that she observed a suspicious vehicle on the same date around 5:00 p.m. on Railroad Street. The vehicle is described as an old rusted dark gray SUV with an extremely loud muffler. The driver sat at the stop sign for a period of time with the window down. There is no description of the driver as there was no interaction between this parent and her children.

Police continue to investigate to ascertain if these incidents are related. Anyone with information that may help identify either the man or vehicles is asked to call Constable Deb Lafreniere at debbiel@chatham-kent.ca or 519-436-6600 extension #87142.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service urges parents to remind their children to never talk or accept a ride from a stranger. Should you see anything or anyone suspicious, please call us immediately at 519-352-1234.
