Not sure if the Defiance Running/Walking Club is for you?
On May 25 and 27 the club is giving people the opportunity to check them out for free as part of their “Bring A Friend for A Run/Walk” week.
Monday May 25 will also mark the start of the club’s “Couch to 5K” program.
“The Couch to 5K starts out gently with a combination of short walks and jogs (1 minute intervals) and slowly increases over a 12 week period, said Mark Childs, president of Defiance.
“We encourage members to do each set of running exercises at least three times a week. The program is very versatile and members can do the work at club runs or on their own. Each participant is given a stop watch and a print-out of the program. Our executive will help guide you through.”
Childs said the program is free, but people do have become a member.
“When you complete the program, the club will offer you a $10 discount on the WAMBO River Run,” Childs said.
The Defiance Running/Walking Club is a diverse bunch ranging from 10 to 74 years of age.
“We come in all shapes and sizes. We have as many walkers as we do runners in our club and we are the least judgmental folks on the planet,” Childs said.
He added the group will motivate you to levels you would have never thought possible.
“The couch is a great invention, but use it to rest after being active, not as a full time hobby. Our motto is: ‘Run For Your Life, It Depends On It.'”
Cost to become a member is $20 for the whole year.
