Members from the Crossfit Wallaceburg (CFW) community put aside the barbells for an afternoon and picked up their wine glasses on Saturday May 2, 2015.

CFW owners Rod and Joanna Langstaff hosted the event where members brought splash pad donations and tasted a special selection of Crossfit-themed wines.

Wines with names such as Obsession, Milestone, Crush, Sledgehammer and Rodney Strong were enjoyed.

“We wanted to celebrate spring and help continue the fantastic momentum of the community’s fundraising efforts for the Brander Park Splash Pad. Many of our CFW families are looking forward to spending summer days in the park enjoying the new facilities with our kids,” said Rod Langstaff.

“We thought a Crossfit-themed wine-tasting would be a great way to celebrate this fantastic community initiative,” said Bob Murphy, CFW member and volunteer with the Brander Park Splash Pad Committee.

Member’s donations for the afternoon totalled $460.

Since the municipality of St. Clair Township matches community donations dollar for dollar, the total for the event automatically doubled to $920.

About the Brander Park Splash Pad:

Through various donations, fundraising efforts and support from the municipality of St. Clair Township, who has committed to match community donations dollar for dollar, the Brander Park Splash Pad intends to raise $200,000 to fund the development of a community splash pad.

The future Brander Park Splash Pad will provide lasting summer memories of safe, water activities to hundreds of families in the community.

Accessible to all, this environmentally conscious water structure will run free-of-charge throughout the summer months (water will be operable on-demand and will flow for timed intervals when activated).

Construction on the Brander Park Splash Pad is scheduled to be completed for late summer 2014.
