Two drinking sources ‘makes perfect sense’ in C-K

A Wallaceburg councillor hasn’t changed his mind about where he wants Wallaceburg’s water to come from.

“Personally I have not changed my stance that the best long term option for Wallaceburg is to keep our current source and not tap into a single source from Lake Erie,” Jeff Wesley told the Sydenham Current.

“Having more than one source for the drinking water of Chatham Kent makes perfect sense and is in the best interests of Chatham-Kent as a whole.

Wesley’s comments come in the wake of the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission setting a “tentative” date for the next public meeting about the future of Wallaceburg’s drinking water.

The third public information centre for the Wallaceburg Water Supply Class Environmental Assessment is set for Wednesday, June 10 at the UAW Hall.

“This is an opportunity for the public to have their say, ask any questions they need to, and get answers, and to make sure the CK PUC understands what the community wants.”

Stantec Consulting was hired by the Chatham-Kent PUC to conduct the environmental assessment.

After presenting in detail a series of options at a meeting on November 26, which included rehabilitating the current Wallaceburg Water Treatment Plant, Stantec’s “preferred alternative” was connecting to the Chatham water supply, which gets its water from Lake Erie.
