This month the Wallaceburg Museum is showcasing artwork from Wallaceburg District Secondary School, and other local high schools.
WDSS has been participating in this event every spring for the last five years.
“We encourage students to express themselves in a visual way, and we promote our program,” said Scott Livingstone, art teacher at WDSS.
The art showcases works from not just Wallaceburg, but also Ridgetown, Tilbury, Blenheim, and Dresden.
“It showcases our senior WDSS students and we invite other schools in the district to submit one or two pieces, as we have this space at our disposal,” Livingstone said.
The event doesn’t have an overarching theme, it’s focused on ideas and skills.
“The students get to see their work in a professional space, and they can bring friends and family to it for the month,” Livingstone said.
The art is hand picked by Livingstone, Scott Lalonde, and Dawn Beuglet, and is meant to display the best artwork of the senior class.
“It’s important to have student art in the Museum because it gets students into the museum and also helps promote local talent of students,” said Mitchell Baeyens, co-curator of the Wallaceburg Museum.
The event runs from May 1 to May 29.
