Update: Dispute with handgun leads to high speed chase

Details surrounding the case, which led to a high speed chase in Wallaceburg, originated with a violent neighbour dispute in Sarnia.

Sarnia Police officials say they are investigating an incident that took place around 5 p.m. Wednesday night.

Police officisls say the incident took place on Fairview Place and involved two men who were initially involved in a verbal dispute.

“The 33-year-old suspect began punching the victim in the head and when the victim’s wife attempted to intervene she was assaulted as well,” Sarnia police officials stated.

“The suspect then went to his residence and returned brandishing a handgun. The victim was able to flee and the suspect demanded that the victim’s wife give him the keys to their van and she complied.”

Sarnia police said the suspect fled in the van, which was later spotted by an Ontario Provincial Police officer who initiated a pursuit.

“The pursuit was called in the interest of public safety as they approached Wallaceburg,” police officials said. “The vehicle was located abandoned outside of Wallaceburg and the handgun was recovered in the van.”

Sarnia Police are requesting a warrant for the suspect.
