The Board of Trustees has approved the establishment of a French Immersion Program at Christ The King Catholic School in Wallaceburg, beginning in September 2016 with students in FDK.

“Our French Immersion programs are very successful at our schools in Sarnia, Chatham and Blenheim,” says Dan Parr, Director of Education. “We are very pleased to bring this wonderful learning opportunity to our students in Wallaceburg.”

The Board approved a study to determine the level of interest in bringing French Immersion to Wallaceburg in March.

A survey, which was completed by parents, shows that a minimum of 23 students would be enrolled in the program at FDK, beginning in September 2016.

The study was led by Christ The King Principal Laura Callaghan, who will assume the role of Superintendent of Education on July 1.

The French language programs will be part of Callaghan’s portfolio.

“These numbers are very encouraging and demonstrate a level of interest that is sufficient for us to move forward with this program,” Callaghan said. “We have already held a meeting for interested parents and they are very excited to have this tremendous opportunity for their children.”

Details regarding transportation and boundaries for Christ The King students, who do not wish to be enrolled in the French Immersion program, will be worked out in the coming weeks and months.
