A convicted murderer on Walpole Island will have to wait until the summer is over to hear his sentence.

Naanan Mackenzie Williams, 23, was found guilty of the second-degree murder of his 50-year-old great uncle Clifford Riley. Jurors handed down a guilty verdict in a Sarnia courtroom on January 22 concerning a 2012 murder that took place on Walpole Island.

Williams’ sentencing was adjourned to Sept. 10 after he made a short appearance on Wednesday June 24 in a Superior Courtroom in Sarnia.

Reports say a pre-sentence report that was needed was not yet available.

His sentencing had previously been adjourned back in April.

Williams is guilty of stomping Riley on the chest to death.

A second degree murder conviction carries a sentence of life in prison.

Eight of the 11 jurors recommended Williams have no eligibility for parole for the minimum of 10 years, according to reports.

Williams’ lawyer said plans are in the works to appeal the conviction.
