Update: Cycling incident caught on tape

As previously reported, on July 19, 2015 around 3:25 a.m. emergency crews responded to the intersection of King Street and Fifth Street in Chatham in regards to an unresponsive man lying on the roadway next to a racing bicycle. A second cyclist was located at a nearby residence. Both men were transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical treatment.

The 42-year-old Chatham man was transferred to the London Health Sciences Centre where he remains in serious condition.

The 41-year-old Chatham man was treated and released.

Through investigation, police obtained security footage from a downtown business that captured the incident on video. The men were observed travelling at a high rate of speed before colliding with each other. Neither cyclist was struck by a passing motorist.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to thank everyone who came forward with information to assist with this investigation.
