First degree murder charges laid in Chatham-Kent

A man is facing first degree murder charges in connection with the 1987 shooting death of his wife.

On November 12 1987, Donna Jarvis, 22-years of age was shot and killed.

Police say the incident occurred on Indian Creek Road, in Harwich Township, Chatham.

The incident was investigated at that time and insufficient evidence existed to warrant the laying of any criminal charges.

Police say in 2013. the incident was re-opened and further investigations took place.

These investigations were lead by Detective Constable Rob Rose and Detective Constable Aaron Medenblik of the Chatham Kent Police Service Major Crime Section.

Assisting in these investigations was the Behavioural Sciences and Analysis Section of the Ontario Provincial Police.

On August 27, George Jarvis, the husband of the deceased was arrested and charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife Donna Jarvis.

The accused is presently in custody pending a bail hearing.
