Update: Drowning victim identified

On Thursday September 3rd, 2015, at approximately 1:23 p.m., Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 911 call regarding an adult male party in distress while swimming in Lake Huron, just off of the beach at Pinery Provincial Park, Municipality of Lambton Shores.

The Lambton OPP along with Lambton Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Municipality of Lambton Shores Fire Department responded to the location. While enroute, OPP received information that the male party had been pulled from the lake by bystanders however he was not breathing and CPR was being performed. Lambton EMS arrived at the scene however despite all efforts were unable to revive the male. Consequently the male party was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 27 year-old Matthew James Boniface of Ingersoll, ON. The investigation revealed that the victim was swimming back from a sand bar in Lake Huron, just off the beach at Pinery Provincial Park, with friends when he was overcome by fatigue. The victim was unfortunately unable to make it back to shore and succumb as a result.
