A trio of friends will be taking the Terry Fox Run to another level this year.

Lynda Hawkins, April Norris and Kim Wood will be making a 35 kilometre trek from Chatham to Dresden to celebrate the 35 year anniversary of the Terry Fox Run across Canada.

“I like to do marathons, I am a runner, so I have always said that I wanted to run from Chatham to Dresden,” Hawkins told the Sydenham Current. “I just always had that whirling around in my head and Terry Fox means a lot to our family. My Dad passed away with cancer and my Mom just really likes the Terry Fox Run and so do I.

Hawkins, Norris and Wood all live in Chatham now, with Norris and Hawkins originally from Dresden.

“I said it out loud a couple weeks ago,” Hawkins said. “I said you know we should do it and than I said well it should be 35k because it’s the 35th Anniversary. So i mapped out a route. I really didn’t know how many kilometres it was and I just started thinking about it and I figured out a route. It all kind of came together.”

Hawkins said the three of them will leave Norris’ house and head straight down McNaughton Ave. in Chatham to Prince Albert Road.

“We are turning left on Prince Albert and going up to Pioneer Line and than turning right on Pioneer Line,” she said. We’re then going down to Eberts or Centre Side Road. Taking that straight through, crossing Country view Line and keep going straight up to Union Line. We will turn right on Union Line take it to Base Line, turn right on Base Line and then come up to the four way stop there and turn left and go straight through Dresden.

Hawkins added: “In order to get to 30 before we get to the Legion we are going to straight through Dresden and run to the cemetery where my Dad is. Than turn around and come back to the Legion and than meet some of my family and stuff there. Than start the loop to finish the 35k.”

Hawkins said all three plan to be at the 12:30 p.m. ceremonies in Dresden.
