Learn something from our children & keep it simple

I read one of those Facebook memes recently that put a smile on my face.

It said, “Happiness is…laughing with a toddler about something completely nonsensical.”

While adults tend to focus on the why’s and the wherefores, children have a way of just living in the moment and enjoying it for what it’s worth.

Children do not usually suffer from worrying too much, or over-analyzing a situation.

Instead, they possess a trait that transcends the limits of what is expected and takes them to the place of discovery.

That trait, folks, is…simplicity.

The dictionary defines simplicity as “freedom from complexity, intricacy, or division into parts.”

Furthermore, it is the “absence of pretentiousness; freedom from deceit or guile.”

We adults can even make having a relationship with God something that is complicated.

Jesus teaches otherwise in Matthew 18:3, where He says, “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Basically, Jesus is saying that we need to practice a little simplicity if we want to get in on what He is all about.

Children can teach us that.

They don’t have the barrier of worry or undue concern blocking their way.

Remember that the next time a child says something nonsensical and you are within earshot.

Just go ahead and laugh along with them and practice the valuable art of simplicity.
