The Wallaceburg & District Council For The Arts (WDCA) has been named the winner of the Community Futures Development Corporation of Chatham-Kent’s Special Projects Funding Contest.

The WDCA has been awarded a $2,500 grant from the CFDC as first place winners.

Voting took place online and the Arts Council was named first placed winners on Tuesday morning at Community Future’s Annual General Meeting held at the Chatham Breakfast House and Grille.

The group will now allocate the $2,500 to the continued 2015-16 performing arts series.

With funding from Community Futures, the Arts Council is happy to announce all proceeds from this year’s series will go directly to a children’s music program that is being established in Wallaceburg and aims to put instruments in the hands of local youth and establishing a local community band.

More details will be released soon as the structure of the program takes shape.

The Arts Council has been aiming for the creation of a program such as this since it was re-established in 2012.

The group is ecstatic to see those goals become reality in the very near future.

“This is great news for the Arts Council,” said Dave Elliott, WDCA chairman. “We can’t speak highly enough of the board of directors and staff at Community Futures. This donation helps us take the next step. Plans are now in motion for a local youth music program to reach out to those in Wallaceburg and throughout Chatham-Kent. We’re extremely excited to see what the future holds.”

The 2015-16 performing arts series brought a sold out Emm Gryner performance to Wallaceburg two weekends ago. The next performance will bring Luke Nicholson, Ambre McLean and Alyssa Doherty to the Jeanne Gordon Theatre on Nov 21.

Tickets are available now at cktickets.com, 99.1 CKXS, the Wallaceburg Museum and the James Street Eatery.
