Remembrance Day Service in Dresden – See Photos

The annual Remembrance Day service was held in downtown Dresden today.

The familiar route from the Dresden Legion Br. 113 down to the cenotaph was completed by dozens of Legion members and community members, and followed by students from Lambton-Kent Composite School.

Rev. Colin Paterson, of the Dresden Community Church and a Legion member, read ‘In Flanders Fields’ aloud before leading the hundreds of people in attendance in the downtown core in prayer.

Paterson noted the significance of the poem, written by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, this year in particular, as it turns 100 years old.

A ‘fly over team’ piloted by Ed Butler, Dennis Smit and Mark Sebutis, all members of the Sarnia Aircraft Association Formation Team, flew over Dresden just before the formal ceremony at 11 a.m.
