‘We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone’

Former U.S. president, Ronald Reagan, is credited with saying this: “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”

When we look at the scope of society’s problems it can very quickly become overwhelming, leading to despair and inaction.

Jesus understood the principle of ‘everyone helping someone’ quite clearly, which is why He said in Matthew 10:42, “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.”

You can’t feed every starving orphan in Africa or Haiti, but can you sponsor one?

You may not have enough food to feed every empty stomach in Wallaceburg, but can you make a donation to the food bank, or volunteer your time?

Your schedule may prevent you from visiting every lonely senior in the nursing home but can you visit one?

See how easy this is when you put things into perspective.

Your little investment, coupled with those of others, can add up to some pretty serious results.

Being proactive about it is certainly key.

If you plan to do something, you are much more likely to follow through than if you just sit back and take a “wait and see” approach.

The choice is yours, so what will you do with that choice this week?

  1. Maybe a nice line, and he certainly helped the Contras by selling arms to Iran, so I suppose he helped Iran, He helped the bosses get rid of the unions, He didn’t do much for AIDs patients though, except make jokes at their expense.

I think the Good Samaritan story is much less open to misinterpretation and much more inclusive
