Liberals claim “We’re back” – back to what they are best at and that is big taxes, big deficits, and big government.
Today’s Speech from the Throne confirmed what many Canadians believed all along. To Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, “Real Change” means mirroring the policies and programs of Ontario’s Premier Kathleen Wynne. That is bad news for all Canadians from every region in Canada.
In virtually every respect, today’s speech represents a rehash of previous Liberal promises which they failed to deliver on when they had opportunities in the past. Most unfortunate was the government’s total failure to address upcoming issues facing rural Canadians and agriculture.
On taxes, the government will scrap the monthly Universal Childcare cheques which benefited every single family in Canada. They plan to offer a tax cut that will apply to only some Canadian families, while raising taxes on others to pay the bill. They will also move in lockstep with Premiers, like Kathleen Wynne, by imposing a price on carbon which will increase the cost of everything Canadians have to buy. This of course will wipe out any proposed tax cuts.
Higher taxes will mean significant job losses. Today, Statistics Canada reported Canada lost 36,000 jobs in Justin Trudeau’s first month as Prime Minister. This contrasts sharply with our government’s last month in office where the economy grew by 2.3% in the second quarter.
While the rest of the world is stepping up its military engagement against ISIL, the Prime Minister has decided, much to the disappointment of our coalition partners, on a full retreat. In view of recent attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, the government’s decision will compromise global safety, especially in countries like Canada which have received direct threats.
The government has pledged new action on climate change. Canadians know that actions speak louder than words. Liberals have made promises and commitments in the past that they not only failed to deliver but actually made the environment worse.
There are many questions that must be answered. I intend to stand up for my constituents of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, rural residents, and all Canadians, in the following days and weeks and to ask those important questions of this new government.
– Bev Shipley, MP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex

Bev, Did you clear this with the PMO first? Oh ya, that dictator is gone.
Big deficits? As I recall the Liberals ran nine consecutive surpluses and paid down the national debt by $79-billion. Mr. Shipley’s Conservatives inheriting that envious financial position when they came to office in 2006 and ran deficits totalling $119-billion over the next nine years.
To put that in prospective, each Canadian now owes over $3,000 more than they did before Bev came to office.
