‘Live to give’ in 2016

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

It’s now the third day of a brand new year with nothing but uncharted territory in front of you.

Let’s go over your resolution list, shall we?

Quit smoking.

Check.

Lose weight and join a gym.

Check.

Get organized, get out of debt, and get more out of life.

Check, check, check.

But what about digging deeper this year instead of going for the usual standbys?

How about planning to give more in 2016?

The phrase “give more” can mean a number of things. Give more of your money to those who need it.

There are so many charities that could use the financial boost.

Give more time volunteering – at your child’s school, the food bank, service clubs, nursing homes, church, tutoring and mentoring – the list goes on.

Give more attention to family – date nights with your spouse, recreation with the children, visits to grandparents and extended family members, whatever.

What would our community look like if the number one New Year’s resolution for each person was to “live to give” in 2016?

It’s a radical thought but definitely doable.

It takes the focus off of me and on to others, which is precisely where Jesus would like us to put it.

Now, get out there and start giving!
